The cost of information
Producing good quality information means costs, money, time and human resources. Data collection, if it primary research it can be very expensive to produce questionnaires etc. and then you would have to pay for people to conduct the research. If it is secondary research, they may have to pay the third party for the use of the info. Data entry costs, people need to be paid to do so. The use of OMR's and OCR's are also expensive. Hardware and software have to be purchased to process the data. It also costs to keep the data up to date and accurate.
Characteristics of information
1. What are the three headings that come under SOURCE?
Internal, external, primary and secondary2. Quantative qualitive formal and informal come under nature information
3. Strategic information is used by high level management. An example of this is report forecasting a rise in interest rates.
4.Time comes under three headings also, historical, current and future.

The Value of Information
Good Information adds value to organizations. It aids decision making, the quality of a decision depends on the quality of information. Decision making is crucial within a business, therefore it is important that their information is accurate, up to date and complete. Information can also show a business how it is doing, performance wise. Information can be used to target resources. Information can also allow a business to gain a competitive advantage. This is because they will be able to compare sales, etc with their competition.

Homework
The homework that i will set the class when i teach them my topic on "The Presentation of Information" will be a few simple questions about the advantages, disadvantages and definitions of different methods of presenting information.
My topic Jan 2007
The topic that I am going to teach to the class is on presenting information, part 1. I will be doing this along with Christopher Mc Scallion. The way in which I am going to go about teaching this topic is, I am going to prepare a presentation in PowerPoint, I will make it very effective in appearance, and I will make it simple to understand. However will cover all the major topics in the area. I will also prepare a lesson plan, in which it will describe what the class will entail. This will be the presenting of the presentation. I will also set a few questions for homework.
Spreadsheets November 06
This week in ICT, we have been working at spreadsheets, and becoming familiar with the basic functions involved in the usga eof spreadsheets. Spreadsheets are used to perform calculations, and i used certain calculations to perform SUM, MAX, MIN, AVERAGE, IF, COUNT, etc.
January Assessment
Attention/Conduct in Class: I think that over the past year, my behaviour in class has not been perfect. There have been times when I have had to be told off for lack of attention. Sometimes, I don’t pay attention and I mess about. I don’t think that I distract others, definitely not purposefully, but it probably does happen. Sometimes my peers (eg.Ben) turns off my computer and I have to retaliate. This term I will try my best to pay the most attention that I can, I will stop messing about and will make sure that we don’t carry on, distracting each other.
Academic Performance: My Academic Performance this year I think has been good. It could be a lot better but it is satisfactory. I have performed well in our class tests and I have been able to grasp the concepts that we have been studying. For example, I got 32/37 in one test. In another test I got 11/16. If I had revised more thoroughly, I would have attained greater marks in these. From now on I intend to revise more for class tests.
Practical Skills Acquired: Over the past term I believe that the practical skills I have attained are very good. I have dealt with the tasks that have been set to us very well and I am now able to complete many tasks and I completed all the projects wew were set on time. For example, the wink tasks that we were set on our word processing tasks and database and spreadsheet tasks. I will continue to work hard on my practical tasks, especially now as we begin to start our module 1, which is a large coursework based module.
Time Spent out of Class: Over the past term I believe that I used my time out of class quite efficiently, I made a lot of use of my time at home on my ICT work. I also used some of my study periods to work on my ICT work. The whole class also donated the free period for several Friday afternoons to do class tests or work on projects. However in terms of using my resources effectively, I was not so efficient. In terms of the xmas test, we were given two past papers and were told that either of these would be our xmas test. I revised and practiced these however not enough, and my timing wasn’t good.
Responsibility for Own Learning: In regards to my responsibility for my own learning I believe that I have done so effectively. I have come to class prepared, I almost never have difficulties with my logon details, however, I do have a problem with my blog, as it cannot be found. I rarely forget my homework or memory key. However I will aim to improve this in the coming term. I spend some of my study periods in ICT rooms, therefore taking responsibility for my own learning. However now in the new year I aim to spend more of my free time in school devoted to my ICT coursework which we are now starting.

introductory letter september 06
Dear Mr Barr
Thank you for all your help over the past year, I feel I achieved my A grade at AS GCE Applied ICT due to my consistent hard work throughout the year. I worked hard by archiving my lever arch folder with my notes regularly, keeping up to date with all class work, homework and coursework. I did the work for my coursework bit by bit as I was instructed to.
I also thank you sir for the hard work you put into our class over the past year to ensure we got top grades, for helping us with all our coursework and teaching us very efficiently, thank you for providing us with good notes, and for the use of ICT in your teaching, making class more enjoyable and understandable, and for answering any questions we had.
